Moss Wood Ribbon Vale Cabernet Merlot 2008 (RRP $50)

Growing Region: Margaret River
Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc
Alcohol: 14%

Moss Wood is one of Margaret River’s finest producers and  the grapes for this drop have been sourced from the nearby Ribbon Vale vineyard. The Moss Wood label was established in 1969 by one of Margaret River’s early pioneers Dr. Bill Pannell. The 2008 Ribbon Vale Cabernet Merlot is definitely a first class wine which is exactly what you would expect from such a renowned label.

The nose displays a good intensity of red berries, spicy blackcurrant and subtle oak notes. The palate is medium bodied with blackcurrant at the fore leading to spicy fruit characters coupled with silky tannins and a good length to finish. The 2008 Moss Wood Ribbon Vale Cabernet Merlot is a well crafted wine that should gain complexity with cellaring. If you enjoy older wine I recommend cellaring it for at least 10 years.

94/100
